Dlink to Cisco OSPF routing
Configuring Open Shortest Path First between Cisco and DLink has been a highly simple process. Thankfully the process was very straight forward follow the text book and magically everything works!! So far the two items that I have noticed about defaults have been:
1. External routes are by default in Dlinks are advertised as External Type 1. The routes by Cisco are advertised as External type 2. The difference being type 1 routes include the cost to the router advertising the routes. Type 2 don't factor this in usually making these routes preferred incorrectly over unlike links
2. OSPF within DLinks still factor the paths costs based on 100 megabits (mbs) are costs of 1. With a nice Dlink router being 24 port 10/100/1000 most router links are scored 1. With Cisco products this can be changed with following command:
ospf auto-cost reference-bandwidth ref-bw <-- ref-bw is the number in megabits
Besides these 2 minor items authentication has been configured between routers and areas flawlessly. Shows again that you can save big money with Dlink devices and get full integration.
This is based on my experience connecting OSPF running Cisco devices to Dlinks.
